Business plan for the Proposed AfroCare Restaurant in Allerton, Essay
Business plan for the Proposed AfroCare Restaurant in Allerton, Liverpool - Essay Example The researcher states that the name of the proposed Afro-Caribbean Restaurant shall be AfroCare Restaurant. It will be based in the Allerton borough approximately 4.8 kilometres from the city centre of Liverpool. AfroCare Restaurant will specialize in the preparation of Afro-Caribbean dishes including breakfast, lunch and dinner. Ideally, this business envisions a large market with mixed customer base incorporating mainly the British Afro-Caribbean community residing in the suburbs of Liverpool and its environs including the Hunt Cross and Calderstones Park. On the other hand AfroCare Restaurant will also incorporate a wide range of fast foods and customized drinks at affordable prices suitable for the vast majority of college students living around Allerton. While the business is set to roll out by the end of this year 2012, it looks forward to capture a market share of about 60% by the close of Year 1. The projection is based on the fact that there are no restaurants in Allerton wh ich have specialized in Afro-Caribbean dishes. However, it is prominently argued that the few that prepare Afro-Caribbean foods have recorded remarkable increase in customers and thus an improved attributable revenue performance. In terms of capacity, AfroCare Restaurant will be established in a spacious facility along the Allerton Road with an optimal sitting capacity of 200 heads. At full occupancy, the restaurant projects sales revenue of about à £9,000 per day. ?9,000 per day. This translates to an AfroCare annual return of ?3.24 million. If the business therefore realizes at least 60% customer base, it will manage an annual revenue performance of ?1,944,000 at the end of Year 1. To that end, the proponent of this venture has set aside a starting capital of ?300,000 with an estimated reinvestment rate of 10% on the cost of capital (Taylor and Brown, 2003). Thus, AfroCare Restaurant envisions the attainment of a full capacity by the second quarter of Year 2. The business and its Management Proper management is one of the core elements of every business especially when competition as a factor to consider. Guided by a realistic vision and SMART objective, the management of any enterprise defines the overall stricter and operational dynamics of the business as reiterated by (Toren and Adam, 2011). AfroCare Restaurant will basically be a sole proprietorship company with limited liability. As such, the manger will reserve exclusive authority of the operations of the business while taking into account the possibility of outsourced expertise in Food and Beverage Management in line with common practice in the modern world (Boone and Kurtz, D. (2010). With that in mind, AfroCare Restaurant endeavours to set an exceptional and unmatched standard in the provision of Afro-Caribbean dishes beyond the expectations of our customers. Therefore, its operations and service delivery shall always be inclined toward achieving the following vision and objectives. Vision Primari ly, a vision refers to the main goal that an organization seeks to achieve over a predetermined period of time. Whereas the vision governs the operational efforts of an enterprise, it keeps the business in focus at all times as postulated by (Liebig, 1994; Walters, 2011) The vision of AfroCare Restaurant is to be the best service provider of Afro-Caribbean foods across Liverpool and beyond. Mission According to Shane (2003), a mission refers to the basic philosophy on which the daily activities of an organization are

Relationships Between Society and Religion Essay Example for Free
Relationships Between Society and Religion Essay The relationship between religion and society has provided the focus for some of the greatest works of sociology (one thinks of Durkheim, Pareto, and Weber, as well as Marx and Parsons). Samuel Delbert, a Canadian sociologist, rebelled against what he saw as the static concerns of American sociologists, trained his eyes on the process of social change, and placed the study of religion as a major item on the agenda of social analysis in Canada. In three important works, Clark argues that the changing structure of religious organization provided a measure of the pace and character of social change. Clark undoubtedly made the study of religion an important topic in Canadian sociology. At the same time, however, his work intended to limit the range of sociological concerns by linking the study of religion to questions of the forms of religious organization and politics (Artibise, 1990). The Essence of Religion In order to further understand the context between the relationship between religion and society, it becomes clear only after we have determined the basic essence of religion, that which is common to them all. Many different attempts to conceptualize the essence of religions have been made. These definitions usually reflect the viewpoint of the defining subject more than the essence of the defined object. When, for instance, Immanuel Kant defines religion as the ââ¬Å"fulfillment of all of our duties as divine commands,â⬠this doesnââ¬â¢t reflect the essence of religion which is concerned with a completely different sphere, but rather the rationalistic standpoint of Kant, for whom religion is essentially theonomic ethics. Often the essence of a specific historical religion is held up as the ideal and norm for all religion (Mensching, 1976). Prophecy presupposes a relationship between religion and society that conflicts profoundly with established religion. Established religion sees religion as the sacred ideology of the established social order. It is the ââ¬Å"handmaidenâ⬠of the ruling class. It pronounces the established social order to be created by God and to be a reflection of the divine will (Riemer, 1996). The Founding Fathers In their sociological writing, Marx, Weber, and Durkheim were responding to the economic and social changes of the 19th and early 20th centuries, timely more often than not by the disastrous effects that fleeting industrialization had imposed on the European community of which they were sector. The course of religion could scarcely be averted with this foundation, for religion was seen as an important area of the society that seemed to be shifting beyond identification. By at least a period, Karl Marx (1818-83) predates the other. There are known two important factors in the Marxist thoughts on religion: The first is descriptive, the second evaluative. His dependent variable is religion; in other words, its structure and nature are liable on social and most importantly economic relations, which constitute the foundation of social examination. It can never be understood separate from the economic form and the association of the capitalist or worker to the basis of formulation. The second factor connects from this however, has an assessing component. Religion is said to be a form of indifference or alienation; it is a symptom of social malformation which disguises the exploitative relationships of capitalist society. Religion persuades people that such relationships are natural and, therefore, acceptable. It follows that the real causes of social distress cannot be tackled until the religious element in society is stripped away to reveal the injustices of the capitalist system; everything else is a distraction. Subsequent debates concerning Marx/s approach to religion have to be approached with care. It has become increasingly difficult to distinguish between (a) Marxââ¬â¢s own analysis of religious phenomena, (b) a subsequent school of Marxism as a form of sociological thinking, and (c) what has occurred in the twentieth century in the name of Marxism as a political ideology. The essential and enduring point to grasp from Marx himself us that religion cannot be understood apart from the world of which it is a part; this is a crucial sociological insight and central to the evolution of the sub discipline. It needs, however, to be distinguished from an over deterministic interpretation of Marx that postulates the dependence of religion on economic forces in mechanical terms; this is unhelpful. The final point is more political. It may indeed be the case that one function of religion is to mitigate the very evident hardships of this world and so disguise them.

Utility Programs And File Management Computer Science Essay
Utility Programs And File Management Computer Science Essay Utility program are programs that help in maintaining , controlling and managing the computer resources . the functions of utility program is that it performes a specific functions rather than a major function or applications, these programs help in the day to day activities performed in a computer and help the computer to run in high performance . file management programs help us in managing files easily , a file manager is a program which provide a user interface to work with the file system , in this program the files is basically displayed in a hierarchy and some other file managers features are inspired by web browsers which have forward and backward navigation keys . the newer graphical interfaces that comes with operating system like windows 95 version have reduced the need to have a alternate file management programs For example the T- mode commander is a well k now orthodox file managing program. The texA file manager program is a compter program that provides a graphical user interface to work with the file system, the commom operation performed on the files or a number of files are . Create, Open ,Edit ,View ,Print ,Play ,Rename ,Move ,Copy ,Delete And it also modifies attributes ,properties and permission, some file manager provides network connectivity from protocols such as FTP , NFS,SMB .this is achieved by the user to browse for a file server or by providing its own full client implementations for file server protocols. Disk management program involves formatting and defragmenting the disks , defragmenting helps placing files on the disk so that the full file is in a order which reduces the time which helps in finding the file ,some of the disk management programs let us chose a certain number of files that are often accessed ,like the operating system itself and frequently used programs they are arranged in the fornt of the disk. Defragmentation is a process which help reduce the amount of the fragmentation in file systems. This functions by organizing the contents of the disk to store the pieces of each file close together ,it also helps and attempts to create large region of free space using compaction to impede the return of fragmentation. Fragmentation occurs on the operating system when system cannot allocate enough space to store a complete file as a single unit , but it puts a part of it in gaps between other files . larger files and maximum number of files also contribute to fragmentation and result in systems performance loss. Other type of defragmenters keep smaller file inside a single directory, as the files are often used accesed in sequence. The movement of the hard drives read and write heads over the areas of the disk when accessing fragmented files is slower compared to accessing a non fragmented file in sequence ,without moving the read and write heads . Memory management consists of software tools where the random access memory programs present data is displayed. The memory simultaneously is enhanced by making maximum utilisation of memory which is lying unused making it useable. Kernel uses the system memory and helps the data to access keeping security measures in mind as per requirement.segmentation results in virtual addressing.virtual addressing facilitates the kernel to display the original physical address in form of a virtual address. The memory that is being processed in the virtual address and the original differs fron one another. This helps in maintaining the excluisivity if the programs and avoids crashing. On the system reference is made to the data whose memory is missing.virtual addressing helps the OS to store the data in other mediums like hard drive to replace the data from the main memory(RAM).Ending to enable the programs to use more memory than actual present. Backup software :- Backup software is a software which restores the backed up data , backup is essential if u have any data which is important and woe want to keep it for a while . this backup software will compress the data to take up the least space . In other word back up is a process of backing up which makes copies of the data so that these additional copies may be used to restore the original data if there is a data loss event There is two functions of backup .thr primary function is to recover data as a reaction to data loss it might be caused due to data deletion or corrupted data . and the second purpose of backup is to recover data from a historical period of time within the given constrains of user defined policy ,it is configured within a backup application for how long copies of data are required ,back up recovery is a part of disaster recovery plan bot all of the backup plans are able to reconstitute a computer system ,or in other complex configurations such as a computer cluster , active directory servers or a database server by restoring data from a back up A back up software contains one copy of the data which is worth saving in this the data starage requirements are considered . before data is stored in the storage location it is selected , extracted and manipulated . many different techniques have also been developed to optimize the back up procedure which includes optimization for dealing with open files and live data resources as well as compression ,encryption and duplication among others Data compression Data compression it is a process of encoding information using the bits than the original representation would use . these programs squeeze the space generated by the formatting schemes The data compression is helpful because it helps in reducing the consumption of the expensive resources such as the hard disk space compressed data must be decompressed to be used and this extra processing may be detrimental to some applications. the data compression schemes therefore involves trade off among various factors ,which include the degree of compression ,and the amount of distortion introduced and computational resources required to compress and uncompress the data . the oldest methods used codes such as ASCII and EBCDIC these are examples of block block codes when source messages of variable lengths they are allowed many of the algorithms , for example in a text file processing each character may constitute a message or messages may be defined to consist of alphanumeric and non alphanumeric strings . for examples in a pascal source code each of the token represent a message . Anti Virus : Anti virus software administers the flow of viruses into a system from various modes which are contagious. They are very harmful to the system as they have a potential to crash the computer. Antivirus software detects and removes viruses, worms and Trojan horses also prevents and removes adware ,spyware and other malware There are various strategies employed ,signature based detection is a kind which searches for known patterns which states a valid code.there is possibility for a system to be infected with a new external malware which has no signature.heuristics is a better option to fight against such day to day threats. One of the types of heuristics approach can identify the malicious codes or slight variations from which the viruses are born or come to existence. Anti virus software has a potential to impair the functionality of a computer, people who are not so familiar with these hazards may encounter problems in understanding the feedbacks given by the computer and how to react towards it to solve the problem. A anti virus detection process can be complete only when there is a adequate balance between the false negatives and false positives.false positive report s end up in destruction of the computers memory. Operating systems The operating system was created by the company that manufactured the processser and motherboard , so each of the operating system was proprietary that is unique for every manufacturer Operating system performs many functions and is in very basic terms ,an interface between your computer and the outside world , as a computer consists of several parts including the monitor ,keyboard mouse and other parts ,the operating system provides an interface to the drivers this is the reason why sometimes when you install a new hardware the system requires a driver to install the software The operating system functions with system utilities that monitor performance and debug the errors and help in maintain the system , it introduces a set of libraries which is used by applications to perform the tasks to enable direct interaction with system components . the commom functions of operating system run transparent to the users . The types of management include memory management that is allocation of the main memory and the storage areas for the system programs and the user programs and usefull data . In input-output management co ordinates the different output and input device while one or more programmes are being executed . File management is the storage of files of various storage devices and it helps all files to be easily changed by using the text editors Common Operating Systems:- The winner in the PC market was MS-DOS, Microsofts Disk Operating System, and its twin at IBM, PC-DOS, also written by Microsoft. Windows 95 and Windows 95 The previous versions of Windows use DOS as the operating system and adding a graphical user interface which will do multitasking. Windows Me (Windows Millennium Edition) is an upgrade of Windows 98 Windows NT The NT came from New Technology is an operating system for client-server type networks. Racism and Prejudice Essay -- Racial Relations, Carl N. Degler
Racism and prejudice against African Americans in the United States can be found many years before the institution of slavery was legally defined in any state or federal law. Historical documents reveal that almost a half a century before slavery delineated by law, racism against colored people was apparent. Although some modern historians may argue that racism was a result of the clear-cut slavery codes, according to author Carl N. Degler, ââ¬Å"if one examines the early history of slavery in the English colonies and the reaction of Englishmen toward black people, it becomes evident that the assumption slavery is responsible for the low social status of Negros is open to questionâ⬠(29). Slavery did not precede racism. Rather, legal slavery helped discrimination against African-Americans perpetuate and flourish from the 17th to the 19th century. In fact, racism and fear of the norm is a commonly found behavior in history. For instance, Irishmen in the colonies were referred to as ââ¬Å"beyond the Paleâ⬠or even ââ¬Å"slavesâ⬠(30). The famous poet and playwright Shakespeare even referred to the African prince ââ¬Å"Othelloâ⬠as a ââ¬Å"thingâ⬠(31). The Africans were of a different culture and considered an inferior race for these differences. They were destined to be slaves due to the prevalent prejudice such as being labeled ââ¬Å"savagesâ⬠in Africa. As early as 1620, ââ¬Å"Virginia and Maryland recordsâ⬠¦ rarely refer to ââ¬Ëslavesââ¬â¢ but mainly speak of ââ¬ËNegroesââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (31). The label ââ¬Å"Negrosâ⬠is in no way a positive term. Discrimination was widespread in law codes throughout the world before the establishment of slavery as well. In Bermuda, ââ¬Å"the Assembly of Bermuda passed an act restraining ââ¬Ëthe insolencies of the Negroesââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (32). Notice the word ââ¬Å"insolenciesâ⬠,... ...s well as the hatred of blacks. White southerners, both rich and poor, looked down upon Africans as the inferior race. Both felt the cerebral status as higher beings, especially the poor, who would be the lowest of all classes in the southern hierarchy if slavery never existed. One backcountry farmer addressed his fellow southerners, asking, ââ¬Å"Howââ¬â¢d you like to hev [have] a nigger steppinââ¬â¢ up to your darter [daughter]â⬠(182-183). Recorded commentary such as this demonstrated the common fear of the black-man. Slavery played a key role not only in the economy, but in society as well. Racist ideals along with the psychological effect of being ââ¬Å"aboveâ⬠another class led to the defense of slavery by both the rich and poor alike. Works Cited Degler, Carl N. The Great Gatsby- Jay Gatsby V Essay -- essays research papers
Jay Gatsby, the title character of The Great Gatsby, is really not all that the title might suggest. First of all, his real name is James Gatz. He changed it in an effort to leave behind his old life as a poor boy and create an entirely new identity. He is also a liar and a criminal, having accumulated his wealth and position by dishonest means. But he is still called ââ¬Ëgreat,ââ¬â¢ and in a sense he is. Gatsby is made great by his unfaltering hope, and his determination to live in a perfect world with Daisy and their perfect love. Gatsby has many visible flawsââ¬âhis obvious lies, his mysterious way of avoiding straight answers. But they are shadowed over by his gentle smile and his visible hunger for an ideal future. The coarse and playful Jay Gatsby who throws wild parties and spends lavishly on friends and strangers doesnââ¬â¢t hold as much reality as the quiet Gatsby who dreams of happiness with Daisy and the relationship they once had. He also has the power to make his dreams reality. He dreamed as a boy of a luxurious life of riches and high society, and he got it. Later he dreams of Daisy and their future together, which he has in reach for a time before it falls away. He loses it because his love for Daisy is all in the relationship they used to haveââ¬âhe wants to recreate the past, not make a future. His love for her isnââ¬â¢t really based on her, he doesnââ¬â¢t even see her efforts to hide herself under an unfeeling shallowness. He is more in love with what she represents, and what he...

Essay on the Characters in The Awakening -- Chopin Awakening Essays
Importance of the Characters in The Awakeningà à The Awakening was a very exciting and motivating story. It contains some of the key motivational themes that launched the womenââ¬â¢s movement. It was incredible to see how women were not only oppressed, but how they had become so accustomed to it, that they were nearly oblivious to the oppression. The one woman, Edna Pontellier, who dared to have her own feelings was looked upon as being mentally ill. The pressure was so great, that in the end, the only way that she felt she could be truly free was to take her own life. à In this paper I am going to concentrate on the characters central in Ednaââ¬â¢s life and her relationships with them. Leonce Pontellier, the character portraying Ednaââ¬â¢s husband was a man very traditional in his thinking. He was self-absorbed and honestly did not see the fault in his own ways. He sincerely believed that Edna was the most important person in his life. However we notice throughout the story that his behavior was in direct contrast with that statement. Edna is only important to him, as in how she effects him and the effect her actions has on his life. If we look at chapter three, Leonce comes home in the middle of the night, awakening his wife whom is fast asleep. He immediately beings to give her the details of his day. When she is unable to fully reply, because she is half asleep, he becomes upset. He states that she is the sole object of his existence and he is upset that she takes so little interest in his concerns. If she was indeed the sole object of his existence, he would have been more considerate than to awaken her in the middle of the night, because he wanted to talk. Also look at chapter 32, when Leonce, learns that Edna is mov... ...e will never have a taste of lifeââ¬â¢s delirium. Could this mean that as long as you do not take risks, float on the edge and cease being content, you do not truly live or enjoy the ââ¬Å"crazinessâ⬠of life? More similar to Edna is Mademoiselle Reisz. Like Edna, Mademoiselle. Reisz was a free spirit who did not agree with oppression of women at that time. She was looked upon as being weird and mentally disturbed. Something was definitely wrong with a woman who did not care what others thought and whom chose her own path in life. Mademoiselle Reisz inspired Edna to be true to herself and defy the norms. It was very appropriate that the ending scene took place at the sea, for it was ion the sea when Edna experienced her first taste of freedom (see Chapter ten). Edna finally empowered herself by deciding her own fate, instead of allowing others to choose it for her.

Psychological Critical Perspective Essay
The utilization of a psychological critical perspective in literature entails the utilization of a specific psychological perspective to be used in the assessment of the various elements within the text as they are related to both the author and the intended audience of the work. Bernard Paris (1997) states that the use of psychology in the analysis of a literary text enables us ââ¬Å"to understand the behavior of characters in literature from the past, to enter into their feelings, and to enrich our knowledge of ourselves and others through an understanding of their inner conflicts and relationshipsâ⬠(p. xii). In line with this, what follows is a psychological analysis of the representations of life and death in Sophoclesââ¬â¢ Oedipus Rex and Susan Glaspellââ¬â¢s Trifles. Within Sophoclesââ¬â¢ Oedipus Rex, the psychological representation of death is evident in the representation of the sphinx. The sphinx, as a mythical creature, represents perplexity and death. In its many versions, the sphinx may be said to be a representation of perplexity in its employment of riddles in its interaction with human beings. Furthermore, it may be said to be a representation f death since it is depicted as a creature that brings death [or at least bad luck or misfortune] to those who cannot solve its riddles. In Greek mythology and drama, this creature is depicted as a beast with a feminine gender. Though generally regarded as an unhappy monster, the sphinx also serves as a symbol of femininity, power and confusion. In Sophoclesââ¬â¢ Oedipus Rex, one may infer that in Greek tragedy, sufferings and tribulations are intertwined with the heroââ¬â¢s existence. To a certain extent, one may say that in the case of Oedipus Rex, the sphinx defines the existence of Oedipus; his ââ¬Ëbeing a heroââ¬â¢, so to speak. The same holds true for the sphinx. In other words, the hero and the villain define each othersââ¬â¢ being. Note for example that within the text itself, Oedipusââ¬â¢ existence is intertwined with the Sphinx in the sense that the Sphinx and hero are twin-born. In terms of its monstrosity, the sphinx is depicted in many ways. These depictions are as follows. In Oedipus Rex, she is depicted as a singing sphinx that has permitted the oversight of dark secrets as well as a winged maiden with crooked talons who sang darkly. Oedipusââ¬â¢ incapacity to discern both the oracle at Delphi and the true nature of the sphinx and its closeness to himself present us with a rather different view about human nature and the ancient Greeksââ¬â¢ belief in fate. The sphinx reminds us of two things. First, it reminds us of our inability to fully know ourselves because of human natureââ¬â¢s enigmatic character. Second, it poses significant questions with regards to human freedom and our capacity for choice. In other words, it toys on the idea whether freedom and choice are mere illusions that human beings would like to think that they possess when in fact, they do not. Within this context, life and death are represented within Oedipus Rex in such a way that it places emphasis on the difficulty of discerning the conditions of life. Such a difficulty is mirrored in the portrayal of the Sphinx as well as the Sphinxââ¬â¢s relation with the hero of the text. As opposed to this, Susan Glaspell portrays life and death differently in Trifles. Trifles recounts the tragedy that occurs within marriage during instances wherein there is an absence of homosocial dimensions in a womanââ¬â¢s life. Within the text, life and death are represented in such a way that they are made to be seen within the context of a masculine gaze. The reason for this lies in the subjectivity of the portrayal of both freedom and objectivity within the text. Consider for example the case of Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peter who both tried to conceal the evidence of Minnieââ¬â¢s crime. One might note that such a decision mirrors a certain amount of freedom on both charactersââ¬â¢ part. Both characters may be said to possess freedom in the negative sense that they may choose to omit specific information that they have however the subjectivity of this freedom is evident if one considers that the psychological reason for omitting such an information may be traced to their embeddedness within a masculine point of view that requires them to maintain the existence of order within their immediate surroundings. Life and death, within Trifles, may be said to be determined by a patriarchal point of view. Such a point of view, however continuously contradicts the feminists perspective as can be seen in the controversies that arose as a result of Minnieââ¬â¢s death. References Bernard, P. (1997).
